Art, conversation and creative connection came together at Soulios Gallery for the opening of Donna Isham: Transformation and Beauty. The October 2 reception and October 3 artist talk welcomed visitors into Donna’s Nashville debut, offering the chance to experience the work and meet the artists behind its immersive centerpiece.

Donna and her husband, composer Mark Isham, brought warmth and generosity to the weekend. Their conversation with guests offered a more personal connection to the exhibition, and Saturday’s thoughtful questions made the artist talk a memorable exchange. The enthusiasm continued beyond the opening, leaving the gallery grateful for everyone who came to look, listen and share in the experience.
At the heart of the exhibition is In the Darkness… I Could Hear Your Voice, a collaboration that brings Donna’s painting together with projection-mapped animation and Mark’s original musical score. Color and painted gestures unfold through movement and sound, inviting visitors to spend time with the work and discover how their experience of it changes.

Throughout Transformation and Beauty, Donna explores perception, memory and the ways experience shapes our understanding of beauty. Large-scale abstract paintings, expressive portraits and sculpture offer different entry points into those ideas. Together, the works invite a closer look at the textures, emotions and possibilities within each piece.
For those who joined the opening weekend, a return visit offers time to revisit a favorite work or discover something new. For anyone who couldn’t attend, there is still plenty of time to experience the exhibition before Christmas break.
Donna Isham: Transformation and Beauty remains on view through December 20, 2026, at Soulios Gallery in Nashville’s Cummins Station, 209 10th Avenue South, Suite 234.
